UVSER-S

As a result of the global impact of COVID-19, ESDR is working with its European partner, SERNIS, to proudly announce the UVSER-S.

The UVSER-S is an innovative air filtration system which disinfects and improves airflow in closed spaces continuously, without the use of chemicals. It is designed to help mitigate airborne bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19, in close-contact areas where social distancing may be difficult.

The UVSER-S uses established UV-C lamp technology, which has been tested and certified for its ability to mitigate airborne bacteria in enclosed spaces.

Features

  • Designed to run continuously to disinfect the air

  • Environmentally friendly without using chemicals

  • Low mercury content

  • Linear irradiation

  • Ozone free

  • Automatic lamp failure detection

  • Use of several UV-C type germicidal lamps: 254nm

  • Simple plug and play installation

  • Two versions – standard and silent

Applications

A typical application to disinfect a 125m³ enclosed space, such as:

  • Hotel quarantine rooms

  • Public transport cabins e.g. buses, trains, trams

  • Aged care facilities

  • Health spaces e.g. hospitals, doctor’s offices

  • Office workspaces

  • Classrooms

FAQ

What is UV-C?

UV-C is one of 3 types of ultraviolet light. It does not reach us because it is completely absorbed by the ozone layer and the earth's atmosphere.

The use of UV-C to eliminate viruses is new?

No, In 1935, scientists demonstrated the ability of UV-C irradiation to effectively inactivate airborne micro-organisms. In the 1970s, UV-C irradiation was shown to reduce tuberculosis infection. Since the early 1990s, studies have focused on the efficacy and safety of UV-C products as a means to inactivate viruses and bacteria, and they have proven to be a useful tool in this area.

How does UV-C kills/deactivate harmful micro-organisms?

UV-C breaks down the molecular bonds within the DNA of microorganisms. By producing thymine dimers in the DNA, UV-C is destroying the micro-organisms and inhibiting their growth and reproduction, rendering them harmless.

Which harmful micro-organisms can UVSER-S eliminate?

The dose received allows the elimination/inactivation of various types of micro-organisms: Coronaviruses; Viruses (for example: PRRS, Influenza A, Herpes, Hepatitis A, Rotavirus); Bacteria (for example: Clostridium Difficile, Escherichia coli, Shigella) and Spores produced by mould.

Is UV-C effective in destroying/deactivating harmful micro-organisms?

UV-C light causes DNA to mutate and/or break at wavelength 254nm. When the DNA is damaged, the organism cannot reproduce/multiplicate, preventing it from causing infections.

Can UVSER-S eliminate/deactivate COVID-19?

The Technical Evaluation conducted by INTA with the collaboration of Arteixo concluded that, according to the required intensity data, the UVSER-S device is capable of eliminate SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in a medium type room.

Is it safe to be in the same space as the UVSER-S while it is running?

As the entire process takes place inside the device, there is no any visual or physical contact by people in the room, making UVSER-S safe in occupied spaces.

Should I keep the UVSER-S in continuous operation?

The Technical Evaluation carried out by INTA with the collaboration of Arteixo concluded that in order to reduce the viral load, continuous operation rather than shock treatment is advisable, in the same way that a system for maintaining environmental parameters works.
